Painting with Wax- The Wet Shellac Burn Technique

A detailed course for beginner encaustic painters and artists who want to learn how to use a wet shellac burn technique in their encaustic paintings.

Encaustic, or wax, painting is a fascinating art form. Versatile, forgiving, and full of endless fun, I'll show you how to create unique wax paintings by using liquid shellac on the surface, then lighting it on fire. Wet shellac burns create unique textures and add interesting details to encaustic paintings.

I'll walk you through each step, including lots of knowledge for those just beginning with encaustic painting. We'll use a wood board as our "canvas", and I'll show you how to prep the surface, ways to color your wax, and every step of the shellac burn process. I'll even show you how to mix your own shellac!

We'll have a ball creating fire and watching the way the shellac burns across the surface of the wax to create a unique and wonderful look.

I've also got an optional workbook for you to use as you go through the course, with everything I talk about in the videos outlined in an easy to follow manual you can refer to again and again as you continue to paint with encaustic medium.

Hi there! I'm Anjuli, an encaustic mixed media artist from Raleigh, NC. I've been fascinated with encaustic painting for 15 years, and I see no signs of that fading. If you're here, you have that same fascination.

I have a passionate belief that any one can be an artist- all it takes is patience and commitment. If you work towards your goal every day, you'll make it there- it doesn't matter how much talent you think you don't have. I'm so excited to help you overcome your fears and reach your artistic goals!

"What an awesome class, Painting with Wax: The Shellac Burn Technique! I had been watching videos on the internet but they didn’t give enough info. I was intrigued with shellacking but was very hesitant to do it. I was afraid I would cause an out of control fire. Anjuli’s workshop was the PERFECT answer. I watched the lessons several times and went at my own pace. I took a boring encaustic seascape and made it into a piece of artwork with texture and depth. Everyone who sees it is amazed at the piece. So am I! "
