Drawing and Adding Details to your Encaustic Paintings

You can create intricate details in your encaustic paintings using these essential tools and techniques

Creating amazing encaustic paintings can be more than just pushing melted wax around the surface. It is possible to add incredible detail through carving and even stamping directly into the wax, and then adding color to the lines you've created. I'll even show you the stippling technique I use to build up texture.

I'll teach you the basic tenants of encaustic painting as we create our background. We'll carve our lines and stamp into the surface of our wax. There are 2 ways I'll show you to fill your lines with color, and then we'll finish off with a bit of texture.

Once were done, you'll be ready to take your new skills and apply them in your other encaustic paintings!

Anjuli Johnson

Hi there! I'm Anjuli, an encaustic mixed media artist from Raleigh, NC. I've been fascinated with encaustic painting for 15 years, and I see no signs of that fading. If you're here, you have that same fascination.

I have a passionate belief that any one can be an artist- all it takes is patience and commitment. If you work towards your goal every day, you'll make it there- it doesn't matter how much talent you think you don't have. I'm so excited to help you overcome your fears and reach your artistic goals!

"Great class. Anjuli definitely makes me feel like I can do this."
